Connecting Sectors: The Mental Health of Older People

The Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) and Community Services Association of NSW will present an interactive forum on Friday 2 November to :
  • raise awareness of the issues associated with the ageing of people with mental health problems
  • identify the key policy and practice issues for both the Mental Health and Aged Care sectors
  • make and strengthen connections across sectors
  • showcase and promote best practice coordinated approaches to care and support
Claire Vernon, CEO of JewishCare will be presenting in Panel 1 - 9:45am - 10:45am - Showcasing Success: Working with Older People who have mental health issues in Community and in Residential Aged Care services.

Claire Vernon will be presenting with Bernice Moran - Specialist Mental Health Service for Older People, Maida Chand - United Care Ageing and Colin McDonnell -  Starrett Lodge Uniting Care Mental Health.This panel will be interactive, aimed at audience input and discussion around the key topics. The panel will be facilitated by Julie McCrossin.

The program will run all day on Friday 2 November starting at 8:30am and ending at 4:00pm.

Panel Sessions include:
  • Our Stories: The challenges and achievements of ageing and living with a mental health problem
  • Showcasing Success: Working with older people who have mental health issues in community and residential aged care services. Sources of hope and inspiration fort older people with mental health issues. Key issues, barriers to change and what next.
Julie McCrossin will facilitate interactive panels involving key people, knowledgeable and experienced in the mental health and aged care areas.

Have you heard of the 'Independent Living Specialist' ?


Have you ever had difficulties trying to get a tight lid off a jar?

Fischl House is Officially Open!

300 people attended the official opening of Fischl House.

Gabrielle Upton - Member for Vaucluse spoke about how it was her pleasure to open the building.

Allan Vidor President of the Board of Directors - spoke about how our wonderful new building will be accessible to a range of community events and services which will provide support to our community as a whole.

Fischl House is named after Eva Fischl - who was President of JewishCare since 1996 and was instrumental in holding our first Capital Appeal.

Fruit and Vegetable Deliveries


Last week The Aged Case Work Team  discussed the importance of watching what you eat and drink to look after your health so we have found a great resource to make sure you are getting enough fruit and vegetables in your diet.
They are located in Eastlakes and provide a variety of services to support their local community.
They deliver fresh fruit and vegetables in Botany and Randwick local Government areas for the frail aged, carers or people with a disability that makes getting out and about difficult.
