Over the last 15 years JewishCare’s Big Brother Big Sister program has changed the lives of hundreds of young people, aged 6 – 15 by providing them with mentors and role models.
JewishCare has now announced an exciting program to provide mentors for young adults in the Jewish community who are 16 – 25 years of age.
Program manager Kelly Sacks said “this is very valuable initiative which will make a huge difference to the lives of many young people and will fit perfectly alongside our current programs”.
The new ‘Mentoring program’ is aimed at young people who may be facing obstacles or challenges in their lives. This may be a result of mental health issues, living with a disability, experiencing family breakdown, drug use, experiencing any form of discrimination, bullying, or social isolation due to being a new migrant to Australia.
Where appropriate the program may be able to enhance the young person’s employment readiness.
Apart from the substantial benefits conferred upon the young people these mentoring programs are often extremely beneficial for the mentors themselves, providing them with an opportunity to give something back to the community and providing valuable additions to their Resumes.
